I went to Phonsavan by myself and found out about a cousin who is living there with his family a couple of hours before the flight. After getting his phone number from a relative, I called him up after my plane landed. He and his wife and a group of friends from base 702 took me to see the Plain of Jars and I treated them to lunch. It was a wonderful family meeting and he told me about how my mother saved his life as a little boy by giving him a surgery at a hospital she was working at that time.

I told him how I met his mother for the first time in 2007 when I found out about my biological father and went looking for the rest of the relatives. His mother is my Papa’s older sister. We caught up with each other as we shared a lunch with stories and we all felt like we have known each other all our lives. I was in the mood for Tum Mak Houng (Lao Green Papaya Salad) with Khua Mie (Fried Noodles) and the relatives are into Laap Beef (Lao Minced Beef Salad) with Kaeng Sien (Beef Soup) with Jeow Bee (Bitter Dipping Sauce).

Now when I look at a short video clip I took and the photos, I miss them and looking forward to seeing them again in the near future so I can share more delicious Lao food with them and do more fun things together.
