Checkpoint Charlie is another world famous sight not to be missed in Berlin. This historical spot marked the border crossing point between the US and Soviet sectors of Berlin during the Cold War era.

I have always wanted to visit Berlin even when I was a little kid in Laos. I have seen photos of East Germany from my aunts and uncles when they went to study in Berlin in the mid to late 80’s. After all these years I was able to visit Berlin and bear witness to what is left of the Cold War era.

Visiting Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin is indeed a significant and meaningful experience, especially given its historical significance during the Cold War era. As the border crossing point between the American and Soviet sectors of Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie holds a deep connection to the city’s tumultuous past and serves as a symbol of the division that once existed.

I’ve had a long-standing desire to visit Berlin, and that dream has finally come true. The city has a rich and complex history, and being able to witness what remains of the Cold War era is a powerful way to connect with the past and gain a deeper understanding of the world’s geopolitical struggles during that time.

As I explored Checkpoint Charlie and other historical sites in Berlin, I found myself reflecting on the stories and experiences of your aunts and uncles who studied in the city during the 1980s. Seeing the remnants of East Germany and witnessing the legacy of the Cold War can be an emotional and thought-provoking journey.

Berlin is a city that embraces its history while also embracing its vibrant present and future. It’s a place where the past and the present coexist, and visitors can gain unique insights into the resilience and transformation of a city that has overcome significant challenges.
